Update: Had our first power outage since purchasing this generator. Have not cranked it up since break-in. This time it actually started easier than during break-in. Maybe the 5W-30 Full Synthetic oil helped. I connected the propane tank and turned the dial to choke. Pulled the cord quickly 5 times and smelled propane. (This is good since To indicated that the propane has reached the carburetor). Switched the dial to propane and it started first pull. The generator ran for 6 hours powering the security system, one lamp, an LED TV and sound system, cable box and modem, router, computer and monitor, and refrigerator. No problems. The oil level after six hours was unchanged. Again, so far so good.
2500 dual fuel portable generator.
Today I ran through the break in schedule with a few modifications. A total of six hours on propane. I was expecting a significant amount of metal debris but I was pleasantly surprised.
Here was my break-in schedule and results: After adding the included 10W-30 conventional oil, I ran the generator for one hour (after I got it started. More on that later.) alternating between no load and 1/4 load after running on no load for the first 15 minutes. When I emptied the oil, it looked very clean with only a small amount of VERY fine metal dust on the tip of the magnetic dipstick that I had purchased for this generator. I added fresh conventional 10W-30 oil and ran it for two hours alternating between no load, 1/4 load, and 1/3 load. Again emptied the oil. It was still only slightly dirtier than the first change and again only a small amount of metal dust. I added fresh 10W-30 again and ran the generator for three hours alternating between no load, 1/4 load, and 1/2 load. I then drained the oil again. It was considerably dirtier than before but little observable metal debris. Finally I filled the generator with 5W-30 full synthetic oil and ran the generator at 1,500 watts for 30 minutes. No problem. My break in schedule was a little work but I think it will make a difference in performance and longevity in the long run. While maybe a little overkill, for a $6.00 quart of oil and a little time, it was worth it to me. During all the break in, I used the ECO mode for up to 1/3 load and then ran on full throttle for 1/2 load or higher. It ran smoothly in both settings. There was very little oil usage during the break in runs. So far I am very satisfied with this generator so far. I can’t speak to long term reliability.
Now to starting: The temp was 75 to 86 degrees with moderately low humidity during the break in period. You will read a number of comments about difficulty in starting the generator on propane and ways to help. They are mostly right except the generator WILL start with a little patience and some elbow grease. After starting the generator for the first time, it was very easy to start after that. Getting it primed is the issue. Some folks indicated that they usually started the generator first on gasoline, then switched to propane. I’m sure this would work but I am trying to use only propane except in an emergency for obvious reasons (No treating the gas then draining before storage. I know first hand how quickly a carburetor can gum up.) I also considered giving the air intake a little spritz of starting fluid but decided against that. Maybe in very cold weather. I’ll have to do some research on that. The trick is to get the propane out of the tank, through the regulator and hose, and into the carburetor. With the dial set on choke I pulled the rope about six times then turned it to propane-nothing. Back to choke and pulled it another six times. This time it fired up after three pulls when I turned to propane. After that when the engine was warm, it started on one or two pulls without choking. I’m a little tired but satisfied. I will have to see how it goes in cold weather. By the way —I’m 76 years old and in terrible shape. If I can start it, most anyone should be able to.
Misc: For load testing I used an oil filled type radiator space heater. It allowed settings for 600W, 900W, and 1,500W. I only plan to run the generator continuously on up too 1,500W so these settings were close enough and didn’t require me to keep changing appliances. The generator does not have an hour meter but there is a place inside the service cover that looks like it was made for one. Following the advice of another reviewer, I bought a cheap induction meter on Amazon (Magicalmai) and used a couple of zip ties to secure it in the place I mentioned before. No drilling. Works great. Be sure to wrap the induction wire at least five times around the spark plug wire as close to the plug as possible.
I hope that I do not encounter problems with this generator as the other reviews are weighed heavily toward the lauded tech service being awful and beyond useless. Nothing galls me more than calling “expert” tech service and find out that I am speaking to someone in another country whose resources are nothing more than the same owners manual that I have. We’ll see!
I guess I can’t offer any more comments at this time but I will come back after I’ve had time to evaluate the generator during actual usage. It’s getting to be storm season here in the southeast followed by winter ice. I’m pretty sure I will need the generator. I wonder if Amazon will post this long review? Hope it is helpful.

Sat in the garage for about 8 months then when we lost power on Christmas Eve it came to the rescue. Powered two fridges, freezer, hair dryer and other assorted items till power was restored. Works like a charm, quiet and dependable.
I followed the break in instructions and use LP gas to power it. My wife questioned the purchase but man did I get the last word, she is now a believer in being prepared! Don't understand the negative review, worked perfectly for me. Highly recommend!!!

This inverter generator, as the title says, far exceeded my expectations! In the past I have used comparable Honda generators, which are only able to use gasoline (no duel fuel option there), and the noise level on this Champion is as quiet if not quieter than the expensive red generator. At roughly a quarter of the cost and the dual fuel option for the Champion, well, it’s a no brainer!
Prior to pulling the trigger on my purchase, I did a lot of research and read a number of reviews. It seemed like the most common complaint was people couldn’t get it started using propane. I’ll get back to that in a moment.
When this bad boy was delivered I was excited and couldn’t wait to get it started. But I did wait, a solid week before I even added the oil! It was excruciating but during that week I made it a point to study the owners manual forward and backward, LOL. The reason for my wait was because I had ordered a replacement magnetic dipstick. As I’m sure you know, a new motor will create metal shavings which accumulate in the oil due to rings seating and such. When my magnetic dipstick arrived, needless to say, I added the oil that was supplied with the unit, installed the magnetic dipstick and was ready to get down to business.
Now getting back to the seemingly major complaint in the reviews I read, starting this unit with propane. My plan all along was to supply power to this generator using propane only. As you may or may not know, propane virtually has no shelf-life, (well, up to 30+ years if your container/bottle is in good shape), where as gasoline, even treated with a stabilizer only has a shelflife of up to a year. Not to mention the fact that propane will keep the entire fuel system completely and totally clean with no residue buildup whatsoever! Now, back to busting this myth that some people can’t get it started attempting to use propane. As I stated earlier, I studied the owners manual while waiting on the magnetic dipstick to arrive and watched several YouTube videos. Really it’s just complete common sense, (in this day and time I’m not sure is a gift or a curse LOL), which is horribly lacking today. Well, commonsense would tell you that this is a new product and the fuel system is completely void of any fuel whatsoever. Duh, I had better prime it first. Here’s a commonsense tip for those that are lacking in that area; after attaching your propane bottle, regulator and fuel line to the generator make sure your propane bottle is open, next step is to turn the easy start dial to choke, next step is to gently pull the starting cord about seven times until the generator acts like it wants to start. Don’t get all excited at this point and think all you have do is put the easy start dial in the propane position and start your generator. No, three or four more “priming” pulls on the rope while the easy start dial is still in the choke position and then placing it in the propane position, mine started on the first pull! Shazam !!!! That easy ??
As the owners manual advised, I ran the generator for the five hour break in. Varying the loads as suggested as well as switching it back-and-forth from eco-mode to standard mode several times. After the five hour break in period was over, I changed the oil and I am super glad I waited that week for that magnetic dipstick to arrive before initially adding oil!
I have no doubts whatsoever that this inverter/generator will last me for years to come with proper care and maintenance and will power my needs at any particular time.
I can, without reservation, highly recommend this product and I also highly recommend the addition of the magnetic dipstick in the very beginning.

I don't understand people who have a problem with the propane side of the Gen. I added oil, hook up the hose, turned the dial to choke, opened the gas valve, pulled the start cord three times, turned the dial to propane /run, pulled the start cord and it fired right up! I am surprised at how quite it is !

satisfied with this generator so far. I bought it during BF planning to run on propane.
Out of the box, I could not get the darn thing started on propane following the instructions which were very clear. My arm gave out trying to get it started so waited for another day to give it a go again.
I read up on other's posts on propane starting troubles on the net and I tried 2 things that were different from my first attempt that worked for me at least: open the valve on the propane tank very slowly ( supposedly there is a valve within the regulator which may shut if the pressure is abruptly increased ) and the gas cap on the gen has a fuel vent lever which was initially was on and I turned this to off. With those 2 changes and then following the starting instructions, it finally started and no big issue starting subsequently during the break-in period so far.

Okay not sure where I got this but if you read it thank you! I was amazed at how well this works and the main point is how dirty the oil was. Do yourself a big favor and follow these instructions.
After several days' investigation and trial, I finally found out how to start with propane as the fuel. Turns out the prime stage needs 8~10 rapid pulls, until you can smell the propane. The reason is the propane tank relies on the vacuum created by the generator to emit the propane to the gas line. If the pull is not fast enough, the vacuum won't be strong enough to "suck" out propane. 8~10 pulls are necessary to purge out all the air in the gas line. After doing this I was able to start the generator without problems. (THIS WORKS PERFECT) Unfortunately, the manual or customer service is not very helpful in the process
I saw some reviews about problems starting it on propane, but I had no issues. There are a few things that I did that might be useful to know.
1) After connecting the propane hose, open the valve on the bottle slowly then close it. Do this a couple of times so the hose will get gas in it.
2) Put it on choke and pull it thru slowly 3 or 4 times, then pull like you’re stating it. If it pops, switch it over to run and pull again. Mine usually starts on the about the 5th pull.
3) If you are just going to shut it down for a while then restart, leave the propane line attached (keeps the gas in the hose).
Switched out original dipstick for a magnetic one (DO THIS)
Break in I did.
1- purchase 1 litre of name brand that is on sale non synthetic 10w30. Do not use synthetic to break in a new engine
2- removed spark plug, poured about a tablespoon of the oil that came with the unit into it. Put back spark plug.
3 - filled engine with oil
4- pulled handle 10 to 15 times slowly
5 - ran unit with oil it came with for 30 min.
Lots of metal shavings and oil was dirty
6- changed oil ran for 1 hour. Putting half load on and off every so often from here on in. Better oil but still had fine shavings and oil was a little dirty
7 - changed oil ran unit for an hour and a half. Oil looked much better.
8 - ran unit for the remaining 5 hour break in period
- changed oil to 5w30 full synthetic. Break in was done unit works amazing
Actually the oil still came out dirty at the end for me so I ran fresh oil for another 2 hrs. Now it is all good.
When you see how bad the oil looks you will understand how some people had issues.

I bought this for my Jayco SLX-7 195RB travel trailer. It'll power the converter to recharge the onboard batteries. It will also simultaneously power our 8000 BTU wall unit AC. We run the fridge off of Propane.
You'll need to turn off the AC while you use the microwave, because that's too much wattage at once. But it makes it all doable. Pretty good fuel economy and the noise level is quite tolerable. Follow the manual's shampoo-simple instructions and the engine break-in is easy. Best to run it out of fuel before storage, so the carb doesn't gum up with the resins from the fuel (especially if it's got Ethanol).

5.0 out of 5 stars Runs great on propane

I read several reviews of the 2500W duel fual model having issues getting started on Propan. I followed the written instructions for using propane and the generator started on the first pull every time. I completed the ~5hr break in process over 2 days with no issues. I ran varying loads, changing every 15-20 minutes to vary engine speed and load by using several fans and a ceramic heater that had 3 levels of heat. Also you can turn ECO mode on and off to get the generator to run at diffrent RPMS during breakin. It sounds like with ECO mode on, it will only speed up as much as it needs to carry the load, where with ECO off it runs at max RPM and you just hear the engine load up as you add load. I recommend running in ECO mode at first so you get the most RPM changes, especially during the first hour of operation. It is best for beak in of the piston rings to not just run at a constant speed.
After changing the oil to synthetic 5W-30 after the break in period I ran it for another hour or two adding more loads and monitoring output voltage, current and frequency. It would handle up to 15A (1800W) steady state load very well, keeping voltage stable at 120VAC and frequency at 60Hz. If you start loading it above 15A to 15.5A the output voltage drops to 110V. It maintains a solid 110V untill you hit the overload at ~17A. The overload was easy to reset once the load was dropped. I was impressed with how the frequency remained stable at 60Hz even when loading it up or when starting a larger load (like refrigerator). It had no issue dealing with startop inrush currents up to 20A. I never experienced an overload when starting anything. My goal is to be able to keep a fridge and some fans, or 1500W heater or small 6000Btu window unit running (each seperate, not at the same time) and this generator did great.
At low or minim load this generator is whisper quiet. Even at load it is not exteremely loud. Even at full load with the generator about 20ft from the house, you could barely hear it hum indoors. I measured 59-63dB on the sides and back, 70dB on back (exhaust side) with no load in ECO mode. 69-72dB on sides and front and 73dB on exhaust side with 12A of load and ECO mode off.
This generator is working great, appears to be very well made and is meeting all of my needs.
30 day update 03/31/2022.
After sitting for a month I did another test run to make sure everything works great before the 30 day return window closed. 3 priming pulls on propane and it fired right up on the first starting pull. Ran great like it did before. I am still very happy with the generator. I will try to remember to add another long term update when I do another maintenance run.

Starting the generator on propane has been a tough job. 8 or 10 pulls on choke, followed by 3 or 4 on run got it started. I ran it for 30 minutes on no load or light load, changed the oil and ran it for 2 hours on no load to 90 percent load. It performed well, running our Rennai furnace as well as a router and telephones.
Changed the oil again.
I couldn’t put out the effort to get it going on propane for the break-in home stretch. 50 years ago I could have, but at the age of 80 I am too feeble to go through that torture; so I put in some stabilized high-test gasoline and finished off the 5-hour break-in. It starts very easily on gasoline.
There was a fair amount of smoke during the break-in, but I read here that that is normal, and it stopped after a while.
After the break-in, I changed the oil to synthetic and ran it until the tank was empty.
Some notes:
Propane is useless for me. I would have bought a gas-only machine if I had known how difficult it would be to start on propane.
The advice from other reviewers to make sure the carburetor is empty of gas sounds good and I will do it if I can ever get the drain screw opened. It feels like it is welded in place and I am leery of using too much force with it.
As an alternative, I will follow the advice of a reviewer and while I am storing the generator use ethanol-free stabilized gas, running it for 15 minutes every week. Since it is difficult to find ethanol-free gas around here, I bought some Trufuel for this purpose.
If and when I need to use the generator for an extended period, I’ll use ethanol-“enhanced” gas and when the tank is empty follow up with 10 minutes on the Truefuel.
It is hard as hell to pull off the spark plug wire - there is no room to get a grip on the thing. I finally had to use a pliers.
The overload light is on permanently. It doesn’t seem to affect the performance of the generator.
The machine is louder than I expected after reading reviews of how people could have a whispered conversation standing near the thing. Having said that, it isn’t all that loud. It is a bit quieter on eco mode.
All in all it seems to be a good-quality machine.

I'll start with I LOVE THIS GENERATOR! I gave it 4 stars because when I received it there was an oil spot on the top of the box. When I opened it. The top of the generator was covered in 10w-30 oil!
The oil that came with it was sealed and not leaking. All I could deduct was UPS had the box upside down and breakin oil somehow leaked through the top of the case. This is my 3rd Champion generator and have never had a problem with their products until now. It took me an hour to clean it with degreaser! Luckily there was not oil all over the engine. After spending the time to do this, I added oil and started it up. It runs fine and works as expected. I was really suprised with Champion's good quality control that I had to go through this. This would not stop me from purchasing another Champion generator but I will be contacting them to let them know about this! Other than that, it's a great generator! I really wish I could of given it 5 stars!

My new trailer has a 13,500 Btu/ hour air conditioner and my 2000 watt propane-adapted Honda simply could not start this AC. This Champion 2500 will start the AC, and the measured running wattage is within the propane-reduced continuous output of the Champion. The unit is light, but it is about 3db louder than the Honda. Although this doubles the sound output, according to literature (and my experience) 3db is just at the threshold of "noticeably louder".
The biggest negative is that the necessary propane "check valve" (it looks like a larger pressure regulator) doesn't have a bleeder button. Although this is not a problem when the supplied hose assembly is connected directly to a high pressure tank, and the recommended procedure is followed, it could be a problem is you connect the generator to a low pressure connection.

First the good news. This is a dandy little suitcase generator. Now the bad news: It's not really rated for 2500 watts. The 2500 is the surge rating only. Using gasoline it is rated for 1850 watts. If you use propane (which I do so I don't have to worry about gasoline fumes in my fifth wheel RV storage compartment) you are only going to get 1665 watts. Plus, there is a 3.5% penalty for every 1000 foot of elevation rise. That means if you are at 6000 feet in the mountains and using propane you are only going to get 1315 watts. Maybe not even enough to run a microwave. Bottom line is, this unit will not start and run the air conditioner in an RV even if you have a soft start installed on the A/C. Even charging your batteries will put the unit at 60% load and run the engine at the 4800 rpm speed. Do yourself a favor and buy the 3500 watt model you will be glad.
Update: at 55 hours of operation the recoil starter broke. On the bright side a replacement is $20 and there is a good video available on how to replace it. Also, the air filter is an old style foam element that you put oil on. It is easy to access but I didn't see that info in the manual. After running it for 50 hours in the dessert there was a shocking amount of fine dust in the air box. I didn't oil the filter and that might be why. Be sure to oil that filter when you change the oil.

I purchased the duel fuel generator so that I can have the option to use propane, when camping. I haven't used it to camp yet but I did start the generator and ensure that it runs. I followed the instructions, added oil and hooked up the propane hose to a typical BBQ propane tank. It eventually started and I was able to confirm that it would power my phone charger, from the 12 volt output and also a handheld circular saw. I did hear the generator load down when I started the saw. I do like the handy clip to hold the propane hose to the handle.
Couple of minor complaints: to add/check oil, you have to remove the yellow side panel, which involved removing for screws. I'm the type of person who will check the oil every time I start the generator. It seems like they could have made a more convenient way to allow for this. Also, on a warm propane start, I still had to choke the unit and pull the cord several times. The instructions made it seem like I shouldn't have to, given that unit had only sit a few minutes since it was previously shut down. Also, the unit is quiet enough that I don't expect to receive too many complaints at the campground.
I haven't tried to run it on gasoline yet.

I usually have to repeat that step a few times before it takes off. I can live with that. Otherwise pleased with the performance. I use it to charge all the lithium batteries I use for living off the grid. I went with this size as the unit is only about 50 lbs. I did the oil change after 5 hours according to the owner manual and have used 10W 30 synthetic to replace the oil. There is a slight difference in noise with the eco mode but don't use that. Online I was shown how the oil sensor could prevent the generator from starting (not in manual) and to try unplugging the connector. I looked everywhere for the sensor and connector and never found either. I leaned the generator in all directions looking. I reinserted the spark plug, connected the gas regulator, set to choke and pulled the cord. There was a pop then nothing. Turned generator to run pulled the cord, it started. The size, weight and noise level are terrific! It even powered an RV roof heater. We'll see how it works on the AC this summer (technically, it's too small for the AC, but I think it might work).
After setting up the generator, I tried to get it started with propane alone, but no luck. I had followed the instructions exactly several times, so called tech support. I waited for 30 minutes for someone to answer their phone and gave up. Sent an email with no reply after a few days. Called again at 6AM west-coast time and only had to wait about five minutes.
I tried the tech support solutions without success.
Decided to try gas (even though I didn't want to clean out the gas before storage) and it started. Followed the break-in procedure. Switched to propane and it started instantly. I then followed the manual for long-term storage which was not as difficult as I was expecting.
Overall, I'm happy with this great generator. The manual is pretty good, but it should state that if it won't start with propane, use gas and then try propane again.

I took a chance buying this generator during the Prime Sale Days as it was a good price and advertised as “ez start”. Anything with a battery start is another $500 and 50lbs of weight and getting it in and out of the back of my SUV would be challenging to say the least. So, this seemed the best dual fuel option as long as I could get it to start. Well Yeah, not so much on the “EZ” end. I am a 68 year old tough old bird but try as I might I could not get this unit to start. I tried and tried but I just couldn’t even get a cough. My much younger handyman had some trouble but was able, after a few pulls, to get it running. We tried back and forth several times and he was able to get it running but I was not. Just too weak and whimsy I guess. That’s just pathetically sad but that’s life at 68. So I contacted Amazon about a return but on-line it said it was non-returnable. A quick call to Amazon and a few minutes on hold and I got a refund and a UPS pick up. I’m sad it came to this. I had such high hopes of running the A/C in my camper off shore power with this unit but dashed on the rocks of despair.

3.0 out of 5 stars champion 200961: having issues starting the generator on propane
Reviewed in the United States ???? on April 22, 2022
Style: 2500-Watt + Dual Fuel + EZ Start ManualPattern Name: GeneratorVerified Purchase
I bought this generator (Champion 200961) in Jan 2022 to use with propane only (unless emergency), and I like everything about it EXCEPT that I had some difficulties starting it after 3-4 weeks of no operation. Following the instructions for propane start, I prime it on "choke" for ~5 times (slow pull), then put the dial on propane - then do 3-5 or more fast pulls - typically the generator would not immediately start if it was not in use for a few weeks. If I try repeatedly to start it during next 5-15 minutes - no luck. But if after such attempts it sits for 2-3 hours, usually it starts from 2-3 pulls. If I use it next day - it starts from 2-3 pulls with no issues. The recommendation to find "a sweet dial spot" did not work for me, I get the best results following the instructions (prime on "choke" + start on "propane" dial setting). I operate the generator on 6500 ft altitude with no modifications.
I replaced oil after 5hr of operation (to conventional oil for now, planning to switch to synthetic with the next oil change), and I replaced the spark plug to a denso. It had no effect on the problem with starting the generator after a few weeks on inactivity.

There are many reviews and you tube content that talks about the difficulty of this generator to start with propane alone. I thought I might me different but unfortunately after 200 pulls out of the box I had no luck. I tried to check the oil level and play with the choke and other fixes people have found to be helpful but had no luck starting it. I did get a couple small noises as it tried to turn over. I contacted customer service and after an 18 minute wait they predictably said that the regulator might be defective and they would send me a new one. For most of you that have read the reviews that is the standard response and from what I can tell for some it has worked. My regulator is on its way and I am hopeful. I will update this review with the outcome. For now it stays at 1 star.
I returned the original unit and ordered another unit from Amazon hoping I would have better luck. I did receive it a moment ago and it did start after 2 pulls. I was shocked. I shut it down and tried again to be certain. It did start right up again. I’m so confused how one unit and all the other units purchased with one star don’t start up. It’s so concerning and I may have the same problem whenever I need to use it for teal during a power outage. Use caution when choosing this unit if you don’t want to take the chance I did. Good luck….

I could be wrong, but I think I received a used machine. When I went to go put oil in it to break in the motor, oil came out of the oil pan. There also were a couple of marks that indicated the machine had been opened before and scuffed up against something. Machine seems to work well and ran everything I needed, you can tell quality of unit isn't like other brands, especially when I cut myself on burr on the metal trim around pull cord.

This generator is loud. I have a 5000w sinewave generator with a muffler and it almost as quiet as this one. This generator makes about as much noise as a gas-powered pressure washer I use. On the plus side, this is a pure sinewave generator and dual fuel. If your want generator that makes less noise than this one, spend the extra money and buy a Honda.

I really dislike leaving negative feedback, and I had read other reviewers' concerns regarding the 2500-Watt Dual Fuel Portable Inverter's ability to start on propane, particularly in the cold, and I should have listened. YouTube creators who posted videos with the generator also had problems starting with LPG. I have not tried gasoline, but don't expect it to have any problems with that fuel type. But I purchased this for the propane option and I expected it to work, given the reputation of this brand.
Ultimately, after owning it only a week now, I have had a TON of trouble getting it to start on propane time after time. Today, I finally gave up; and will be contacting the manufacturer to see if they'll resolve this issue. Ultimately, I've decided to try another brand - one with electric start!
Honestly, my arm just about gives out before it will start, and that's IF it starts at all. Again, I knew this might be an issue going in, but decided that it was still worth a try for the price point. I wish I had listened to other reviewers who expressed concerns over this problem, and I cannot recommend this generator to anyone looking to use it with propane only. You'll end up frustrated, just like I am.

After testing, had multiple 60-90 minute wait on calls to tech support for operators manual clarifications. I found the vent switch on gas cap didn't gas starve and stall the engine. He told me it was working and the manual (and website) was wrong. He told me manual was cut and paste of other manuals so you couldn't trust it, Really?!?! Manual said closing the vent was how you gas starved the engine for storage. He told me you couldn't gas starve engine if not using for couple weeks and you needed to run gas tank empty. I even removed the cap and put my hand over the opening and engine would not stall. Opening the side panel to verify the hoses weren't leaking, I watched everything vibrate mildly as expected, except the engine itself. In eco mode It was shaking so wildly that I instantly thought there was no way it would last without something shaking apart or breaking very soon. I also found no replaceable inline gas filter even though plenty of room for one, There's some kind of "fuel valve filter" that requires a certified tech to clean every 100 hours. There is no separate filter in the parts list so it must be in the Fuel valve mounted on the front module. NOT A SNOWBALLS CHANCE! Had power out due a storm with my old generator. Ran it day and night for a week. This unit requires service every 4 days by a certified service tech! Have yet to find anyone that did a video on what it takes to do this service. If I had a redo, I wouldn't have purchased.

I contacted the company and explained maybe the regulator might be Bad, they promised to send another one weeks ago and never did, I reached out a 3rd time the other day and still waiting for a response back.
I've seen many others on YouTube start it up in a couple pulls. No such luck for me.
The time I get it to start I'm completely warren out..
I haven't tried gas yet only Propane !!
If the company ever sends me another regulator then maybe I will change my rating !!
I'm disappointed at this point. I shouldn't have to keep emailing a company that promised me something and never received it yet, Ridiculous at this point !!

This unit is light and very quiet although I question it’s maximum continuous wattage rating. I use it on my boat as a back up. It broke twice in six months. The starter cord is an extremely weak point on the unit. The spool is plastic and easily broken with a few hard and fast pulls. I need to take mine in for repair right now. Again! It can definitely handle 1500 W continuous although it doesn’t seem like it can handle any more than that. You definitely need to change the oil often. Champion support is slow and the service centers are pretty spread out. I was fortunate to have a service center within 20 minutes of me. It took them a month to repair my unit. I’m expecting another month this time around. I don’t know if that was the service center or Champion taking forever to send them parts. My feeling is it was probably champion taking forever to send them parts. I’m regretting not buying a Honda. The people I know that have Hondas don’t seem to have any issues like I’m having. They do however comment on how quiet my unit is. Frankly I’ll put up with a little extra noise for reliability. If this breaks one more time, it’s going in the dumpster and I’m buying a Honda.

Initially I was very pleased. I needed a generator I wouldn’t have to run all the time out here in the desert since I primarily run off solar and this seemed to be a welcome replacement to my open frame gas hog.
The whole purpose of this generator is to recharge my solar generator when I have no sun and have only needed to run it at total of maybe 20 hours if that. This morning I noticed a small pool of oil under the generator which makes ZERO sense unless it’s defective. I changed the oil at 5 hours and again at 10 due to their still being metal contamination in the oil. Filled per spec so it was not over full and basically have babied this thing from the beginning only now to have an oil leak. Buyer beware, quality of anything these days seem to be crap and it’s just one more thorn in my side of money I don’t have to spend as it is, waisted and based off other reviews it seems like customer service will be a waste of time.

I bought two of these units recently. Both start and run just fine. No issues there. The issue is I paid for a parallel kit to run my RV with the generators. Hooked up parallel kit for the first time yesterday and one of the grounding studs broke off one of the generators.. I will be calling Champion to see what support they can provide under warranty to get this fixed at a shop.
While each generator is still usable separately, the reason for buying two was to parallel them. Now one is unusable in that capacity which is really disappointing. IMO the root cause is poor Workmanship. Grounding studs should not just break off !!!!!
I will update review after getting the unit repaired and seeing what type of support I get from Champion.
In the meantime I cannot recommend these units at this time.

The unit received was defective out of the box. Starting the unit on propane bottle was bit challenging, but eventually the unit fired up. While running the engine was fairly quiet for a 4-cycle motor, but there was continuous and very loud high-pitch noise. After waiting for a week for the manufacturer service department to process return and replacement (voiding Amazon return chance), I decided to send it back to Amazon.
The idea of dual fuel generator is rather appealing, especially since propane will not go bad like regular gasoline. Extra propane tanks are affordable, easy to come by, used by gas grills, so having extra on is handy. The unit construction seem tight and decent. Nice rugged design, bright lemon yellow (put intended)! Judging by other reviews it seems to be a good model. Like everything else these days it is Made in China. If you purchase this model, test it before your return window runs out. Good luck.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not dependable! Broke after less than 2 months
Reviewed in the United States ???? on July 26, 2022
Style: 2500-Watt + Dual Fuel + EZ Start ManualPattern Name: GeneratorVerified Purchase
Bought two of the Champion inverter portable generators, as well as the box to run them together. We tested them at home, ran them single and in tandem with our Coleman Travel trailer. After the break in period I changed the oil, put the full synthetic as was recommended, also added magnetic dipstick to remove any break in and normal wear and tear shavings. Changed the spark plug to NDK as recommended, and off we went. First stop was in Louisiana, after the second night of running them in tandem together, one of the units kept sputtering and shutting off. Gas cap was in open position as per instructions, but when attempting to pull start the unit, it would pull easy one time and just about pull your shoulder out the second time.. I had heard that sometimes these units get a “vapor lock”, so I pulled the spark plug out and pulled the the start rope, it made a weird popping/wheezing noise and a small amount of gas and fumes came out the spark plug hole.. I put the spark plug back in and it returned to an easy to pull situation, and it started easily after a couple pulls. After a few minutes running, it started sputtering again, and shut off. Again it had the hard to pull every other pull.. repeated the spark plug process and it was almost identical to the first time and pulled and started easily. When it died after a short period again, my wife attempted to pull start it and the entire pull start came loose. The rope was still attached but from looking in through the housing it appeared the plastic pull start assembly broke. Needless to say, off to the local Lowes to buy a Craftsman generator, noisy, gas hungry, but ran like a top. My wife finished the trip as planned using the Craftsman and occasionally using the second Champion Inverter when she just needed to charge the batteries. After about a month on the road I flew out to meet her in Washington State, and while I was there the second inverter would start running rough and shut itself off, just running the converter in the trailer.. couldn't leave it on the auto cycle because it would shut itself off. Also noticed that it was doing the hard to pull thing as well. Contacted Amazon and they refused to help because it was over 30 days (apparently you only get 30 days if it is hazardous/combustible product).. which by the time my wife got back from the trip it was at the 97 day mark anyway. So now we have two units, one is toast (can’t start due to broken pull starter), and the other is not dependable and will likely break the pull starter unless I pull the spark plug every time it shuts down. We will see what Champion says in the coming days. Will update with resolution. My advice is don't depend on these as your only source of power when boon-docking.

Purchased this based on it's reputation for emergency power for a pellet stove at a cabin in WV where we experience power outages. Ran at home fine, 70 miles further west in rural WV at 1260' altitude, it won't turn over, let alone start. Called tech support, spent 48 minutes listening to ads on how good they are despite their recording saying it would be 25 minutes. Finally, a lady obviously reading a script walks me thru what's in their manual and already been tried. Still no go. She couldn't find my registration despite my registering and leaving an initial review two days ago; so she takes everything over the phone (I'm only standing in the cold outside) so she can upgrade the call. Next guy, Danny, took me thru the same initial steps, starting effort, then says its probably the oil level; mine was only up to about 2-3 threads of the dip stick hole, he wanted 5-6. Champion provides the oil; I filled it and held the bottle until only drips came out. Now, if it's that finicky about oil level, how am I supposed to rely on this thing for emergency/power outage conditions?! Problem: I'm 70 miles from home, 40 miles from anybody that's got other generators, 20-30 minutes from someplace that has oil...glad it's not an emergency power situation. This has NOT been a good experience and as far as I'm concerned this Champion generator, despite its reputation, sucks!
Update: I purchased some 10W30 oil and despite the Champion manual warnings (and following the Champion tech support advice) I added oil up to within two of the threads of the oil filling hole of overflowing (about 1/6th to 1/5th of a quart bottle). It took 4 pulls of the rope to start the generator and ran it for over an hour. I don't know whether to trust the thing or not, but one thing is clear: Champion needs to revise its manual and the amount of oil they include with the generator! I called the tech back (he gave his extension), thanked him, and told him what Champion needed to do. Hopefully, he does it and Champion listens!!

Then on top of the oil problem, the propane regulator hose was bad. One of the two hoses worked, but then the one that worked started smelling like propane and then quit working. Then I decided to just use gas in the thing. Guess what... It doesn't stay running for more than 15-60 minutes with premium gasoline. I can't believe the junk these are. They have super good reviews though, so makes me think there's a bad batch of them. However, both the regulator hose and generator are crap. I'm very disappointed because I really liked the generator for the first few weeks.

Isn't it great to change your oil only to find it is a shiny metallic silver? Only thing that could make it worse would be if it shapeshifted into a T-1000.
This is the second 2500-Watt Champion I've had trouble with - I had to return the other one because it was DOA (pull cord wasn't connected)! I should have learned from my first time, but it was on sale and with so many good reviews I thought what are the chances of having a problem twice?
To break in this generator, I ran it for 1 hour unloaded (on propane), drained and replaced the oil, then ran it for another hour (on propane) 50% loaded and drained the oil again. First time the oil looked fine. Second run it came out a bit silver. Concerned, I put in fresh oil again, ran for another hour, and filmed the result, which you can see for yourself. Yikes!
Now I can look forward to the journey through the Champion warranty support system. The sad thing is, this thing actually runs well and runs quietly. If only it weren't rapidly destroying itself I'd be thrilled with it.
Update: Champion support refunded me. They could not replace the unit as apparently they don’t have any (??!). Of course the sale price is gone now, so if I want to buy a replacement I’ll have to pay $100 more… I don’t think I’ll do that.

Generator would not start. Read the manual, added oil, connected propane, pulled the cord till a nearly died, still no luck. Called support and waited for 45+ minutes and still no one answered. Tried again a few days later, managed to get it running for 2 seconds (you read that right, TWO seconds). Called support again. Finally reached someone after another 30-40 minutes. Managed to get it running for maybe 4-5 minutes while I had support on the line. It had a very rough idle and conked out. It would start again but only run for about 20-30 seconds and conk out again. They shipped a new propane hose/regulator. Got that today (2021-07-09) and again it will not start. Managed to run only once for about 3-5 seconds and stopped. Tried two different propane tanks. Now on the phone yet again waiting for someone to pickup (38 minutes so far).
tldr; save yourself the headache and research alternatives. I really wanted this unit to work. I like the small size and the propane option, but it's been basically DOA since I got it on 2021-06-01. Maybe it still can work after some repair (or a brand new unit) but I'm not very optimistic at this point.
2021-07-25 update:
The shipped me a new unit and so far it’s working much better. Thankfully I haven’t needed to use it much, but ran it for around 5 hours on propane for the break in cycle and it made it all the way through. Fingers crossed that it holds up for the long haul.

Simply will not start using propane. Tried every "hack" I could find. Got it started once. Never would start again. Obviously, Champion rushed this into production using an existing engine designed to run on gasoline. Very poor engineering. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. IT DOESN'T START.
The saga continues. Tried several additional hacks I read about, will not start. Called customer service. On hold for 1 hour, 7 minutes, finally reached a tech. He advised I have a "bad hose" which could include a "bad regulator". Sounds like very poor quality control to me, what we used to call "old world crapmanship"
Tech advised he is shipping out new hose and regulator. Not optimistic, but, we'll see. To be continued...
8/31/21: Have not received the "new" hose and regulator. WHAT A TRASHY, POORLY RUN COMPANY. Never, ever again will I buy a large appliance or generator via mail order. Buy from a brick and mortar store, that way, you have a place to take the defective product back to.
FINAL SYNOPSIS: Received the "new hose and regulator". BIG SURPRISE. This one doesn't work either. Finally worked out a hack that usually gets the engine started. Hook the propane up, turn the control knob to "choke". Slowly pull the start cord about 20 times. Then, start pulling the cord fast. The engine will usually sputter to life, then FAST, FAST, FAST, move the knob from the "choke" position to the "propane run" position. You have about two seconds to do this or the engine will cut out and you have to start from the get go.

So disappointed, I bought it because it was dual fuel which gave me options while boondocking, don’t need a special companion generator to turn it into a 30 amp generator, a like generator would work, 2500 watts (what a joke) rating, but all that goes by the way side when it can only put out 7 amps!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Problems from the beginning

Received the unit and went through the 5 hour break in period with no problems. Changed the oil and ran for another hour to make sure it was good before taking it on my camping trip. 30 min into using it on my camping trip it shut off. I checked the oil and and tried to start it up again. It runs for 10 seconds and cuts off every time. Totally ruined my trip. When I got back I called champion and the first person said that the oil is the problem for sure. He said to fill it all the way to the top and it will fix it. I filled up all the way to the top and still same problem. I called back and the next lady said it’s for sure the carburetor and that I should take it apart and clean it which I did and still same problem. I called for the 3 rd time and now they are saying it’s the control unit and are sending me a new one. I have had to completely disassemble the unit and have 10 hours of working on this brand new generator and it’s still not fixed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Uses lots of oil and Champion won't service it without a video showing the problem

Burned oil from day one and took many hours running on gas before compression was good enough to even think about starting on propane.
Champion won't honor their warranty without a video showing the problem but there's no way to show the problem with a video.
