Went to Costa Rica to do adventurous stuff, and these shorts were perfect. Between hiking in the rain, to zip lining in the rain, to swimming in the hot springs, there was no need to have any other shorts. Admittedly, I wound up wearing these every day of our 4 day trip instead of wearing regular shorts and changing into a
bathing suit. They seem to repel smell, probably because they repel water so effectively. Zippered pockets worked out great as well.
